Three areas of Scotland have been selected for a rehearsal to help National Records of Scotland deliver a successful census in 2021.
NRS has committed to carrying out further testing around the sex question and guidance. We have asked ScotCen Social Research to conduct a survey to test questions that may be included in Scotland’s Census 2021. The aim of the survey is to see whether these questions are acceptable, easy to complete and produce reliable data.
Following the publication of our Plans for Scotland’s Census 2021, NRS have undertaken further investigation into a limited number of requests which were made for the ethnic group response options to be reviewed and/or additional information to be collected.
We are holding an address check test for communal establishments in the areas of Glasgow City, Dumfries and Galloway and Na h-Eileanan Siar. Your establishment will receive a letter if you are part of this test.
This test will allow us to quality check the address information that we hold for communal establishments, determine how many people are living in each establishment and identify and engage with the manager or person responsible for the establishment.
Officials from National Records of Scotland will appear before the Culture, Tourism, Europe and External Affairs Committee on the morning of Thursday 12 September to discuss Scotland’s Census 2021. We welcome the opportunity to hear from the Committee and stand ready to deliver a census that is not only fit for this digital century but, most importantly, delivers for all of Scotland.
