As part of our preparations for Scotland’s Census 2021, NRS plan to undertake a public rehearsal in parts of Scotland later this year.
We are aiming to make the 2021 Census more digital and accessible, available for completion online, as well as on paper. The rehearsal will help us test our systems and process as we get ready for the Census.
We are currently planning for the rehearsal to take place on 13 October 2019. We will be asking people living in parts of Glasgow City and in Dumfries and Galloway, and Na h-Eileanan Siar to help us by taking part.
If you live in a rehearsal area, you will receive a letter in early October with more information about the rehearsal and how to participate.
Unlike the Census itself, participation in the rehearsal is not a legal requirement. We are asking householders in these areas to help us on a purely voluntary basis so that we can ensure things go smoothly for the Census.
Scotland’s next Census, subject to the approval of the Scottish Parliament, will be held on Sunday 21 March 2021. This will be the 22nd census to take place since 1801 and the 17th to be managed independently here in Scotland. Please find a link to a FAQ for more information.
